I made a working volcano at VBS.  They're not going to let us take it home, but I have the instructions.  Some of the stuff, adults have to help you.  You'll need:
2 tsp baking soda, not baking powder
4 drops DAWN or dish soap
2 drops of red food coloring, optional
1/2 cup of vinegar
This is how you make it.
We had a small water bottle.  And there was a broken plastic up over it.  It had a hole in it and covered pretty much all of the bottle.  You couldn't see it unless you got down and looked at the very bottom.  Not the very bottom, just the bottom.  You could see the bottom wall.  That part was done already when we went in.  There was no cap on the bottle.  They put the dish soap in.  We got to see them put that in.  We put the baking soda in.  My partner put the vinegar in.  The vinegar was red from the food coloring.  It took a little bit to get up and come out of the top of the water bottle.  It came out bubbling, fast at first and then slowly.  I liked it and I want to do it some more.
